KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) It's too hot to be stuck inside a hot apartment with no air conditioning, but that's right where an elderly central Texas woman finds herself.
Caroline Cerda, 73, says her air conditioning has been out since June.
She was admitted to the hospital for heat exhaustion at the beginning of July.
Then, her landlord issued a notice of lease violation, citing unauthorized occupants and pets and trash by her entryway.
Cerda says her family visited her and says the trash was simply a table she needed help to place in a dumpster.
She says the landlord is just trying to get rid of her instead of fixing the air conditioning, which is a claim he denies.
"I haven't been able to sleep. I've been getting a lot of headaches; I don't get headaches,” says Cerda.
“I can't be living like this, and he don't care. He doesn’t care about anybody."
KWTX met with the landlord who is now taking Cerda to court for non-payment of rent, although she says he tried to pay it.
While he did decline an on-camera interview, he did say he would fix the AC.
Cerda's court date is Monday morning, but she says no matter what happens she's already put a deposit down on a new apartment.
