KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Some Killeen residents stepped out Wednesday on National Walking Day at an event sponsored by AdventHealth, Toyota of Killeen, Central Texas College and the American Heart Association at the corner of Bell Tower Drive and Metroplex Loop.
Participants were given the opportunity to take a quick 30-minute walk along a designated trail.
The event was open to everyone, and people got the chance to walk around the hospital and Central Texas College campus.
“It does clear your brain,” says participant Cathi Wilson.
“It gets you away from the office and the hospital, allows you to clearly think and take in fresh air, and it doesn't take much but two feet and tennis shoes."
Participants walked away with more than exercise; they got a free heart-healthy boxed lunch and a goody bag.
The American Heart Association recommends about 30 minutes a day of moderate aerobic activity five days per week.
