The students assisted workers from the Killeen Food Care Center at the Killeen Special Events Center.

This is the third year junior Lie Johnson has volunteered and she has been encouraging classmates to take part.

“Doing this for a long time each year adds a little bit more fun to it,” she said.

“When you’re around people you know, you can mess around but still, at the same time, be responsible.”

Teacher Savannah Robinson says she’s proud her students recognize how important it is to give back to the community.

“Watching them run around, have fun and have that team spirit for a good cause is just amazing.”

Food For Families is the biggest one-day food drive in the state of Texas and the donations fill the shelves of food pantries in nine Central Texas counties.
