KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) A Killeen woman told police her husband “overreacted” when he shot a man she said had spent the night on the couch after a fight with his wife.

Chystopher Edward Deverus Brown, 25, remained in the Bell County Jail Thursday in lieu of $100,000 bond charged with assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the shooting on Sunday at an apartment at 710 North 46th St. in Killeen.

Brown returned from a trip to Louisiana Sunday just as the victim was getting up after sleeping on the couch overnight following the spat with his wife, an arrest warrant affidavit said.

The victim said Brown’s wife told him “to wait in the bedroom so he laid on the floor between the bed and the wall,” the affidavit says.

The victim told officers that “Chrystopher Brown” came into the bedroom and kicked him in the head,” the affidavit says.

Then, he said, “he heard a gunshot and felt a pain in his side,” the affidavit says.

The victim told officers he was punched, kicked and pistol whipped.

The man, who was shot in the right side of his abdomen, was taken to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.
