KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Patients and staff at the Baylor Scott & White Cancer Center in Killeen got their first look Wednesday at the center’s newly renovated space.

An open house was held at the facility, where oncology areas have been upgraded.

The center now boasts a new state-of-the-art equipment that provides targeted treatment for tumors.

The optical surface monitoring system is expected to provide faster treatment for more patients and with fewer side effects.

“It is going to deliver radiation treatment only in certain parts of the breathing cycle when the tumor is within the target area normal tissue surrounding tumor are not going to get as much radiation dose,” Dr. Niloy Jyotyeb said.

The project cost more than $3 million.

The center is in the 2200 block of South Clear Creek Road inside the Ledge and Smith Professional Building.
