KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) May is Mental Health Awareness Month and an event this weekend in Killeen aims to help resident conquer stress, a major mental hurdle.

The “Mind Your Matter” workshop will feature counselors offering help with relationships, self-awareness, recognizing PTSD and more.

Therapists say many struggle with recognizing and communicating how stress affects them, especially in minority communities.

“It’s really just making it a normal conversation- that mental health includes every one of us and we need that assistance,” says therapist Sharna Daley of Awake to Dream Again.

“That’s why I definitely wanted to open it up to the community and make it affordable for them.”

The event is from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday on the Texas A&M Central Texas campus.

The cost is $10, which includes lunch and materials.
