KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) On what would have been her 26th birthday, family and friends of Erica White remembered her with a balloon release.
White was gunned down inside a Killeen Dollar General on July 3, 2016, by her estranged husband who turned the gun on himself.
"We just want to continue to show love and let her know in our hearts we love her and miss her in heaven," said Yolanda Shores.
Family members said a prayer and released balloons Wednesday night in her memory.
"It's a process, a day-by-day process. Every day we have to motivate ourselves to start over, but we do it in the name of love and by the grace of God," Charles Shores said.
Since her death, her parents -- mother Yolanda Shores, biological father Warren White and stepfather Charles Shores -- have started the Erica White Foundation.
Part of the outreach includes monthly food baskets and helping to provide resources for anyone in an abusive relationship.
