KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) A former Killeen city councilman failed to yield to oncoming traffic before a collision that claimed his life, police say.

Larry Cole, 81, died at Scott & White Medical Center just after 12:20 p.m. on Oct. 5 following the accident, which happened at around 5 a.m. the same day in the 4300 block of Stan Schlueter Loop.

Cole was driving south in a Ford Edge when he attempted to make a left turn into a private drive and his SUV collided with a northbound Jeep Wrangler, police said.

The force of the collision caused the Edge to overturn.

The funeral service begins at 10 a.m. Tuesday at First Baptist Church at 3310 South W.S. Young Dr. in Killeen.

Cole will be laid to rest with military honors at noon on Tuesday at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.
