KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Local residents in need got the spa treatment Monday with free haircuts, hairstyles, and manicures in Killeen.

The Anderson Chapel A.M.E. church held its third annual community day.

The event also provided free clothing, food, and employment assistance.

Church leaders saw an uptick in this year's event after the closing of the city's homeless shelter.

But they hope today's event provided long term solutions for many.

"If we actually feed what you really need which is the ability to help yourself and fend for yourself, then that's when we start building up the community to be better than it is," says Reverend Ayonna Johnson.

The church also used shuttles to pick up the homeless around the city.

"We're all one big community," adds Johnson.

"There's someone out there who does care."
