KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) More than 100 people gathered Tuesday for the funeral for an unaccompanied veteran at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.

Mark Lancaster was in the U.S. Navy from January of 1974 to May of 1976.

“All veterans deserve a proper burial,” said Doug Gault, the chief representative of the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery.

“Mr. Lancaster earned his spot here. We’re extremely blessed to have so many people from around the Central Texas community here to make sure he’s remembered.”

Since no family members were in attendance, Edwin Halford, a fellow Navy sailor, was presented with the folded American Flag that draped Lancaster’s coffin.
