KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) New Killeen City Manager James Cagle shared his plans for economic growth and addressing the homelessness at a special Q&A forum on Monday evening.
Cagle answered questions from many citizens as they shared dinner together at Billy Bob’s Burgers off of East Stan Schlueter Loop.
From tackling homelessness in the downtown area to budgeting concerns in the near future, Cagle believes the city has plenty of work to do.
“It can’t just be the government writing a check,” he said.
“That doesn’t work. So, the main thing I’m trying to do is get a positive conversation started with a community-based solution.”
Cagle previously served as city manager of Leander from 2011 until he was fired in May of last year.
Leander Mayor Troy Hill said the council voted to fire Cagle because of lack of economic development, the Austin American Statesman reported.
Cagle will have a tough challenge ahead of him, as the city looks to address the lack of economic growth in the downtown area.
“It’s not going to be fixed overnight,” he said.
“But to continue some of the good work that’s been done in the past couple of years, that’s going to take time.”
