FORT HOOD, Texas (KWTX) A thousand Thanksgiving baskets were delivered Monday to families on Fort Hood.

The chaplain’s office and Fort Hood command finance specialists delivered the baskets, which were assembled at the Food Care Center in Killeen.

Soldiers packed the baskets in their personal vehicles to make the deliveries.

“For a lot of soldiers this is their first time away from home for the holidays and there are soldiers who haven’t been back home from six to 10 years. Life events happen, family passes away so for the soldiers that are brand new here so this is a sense of home,” Sgt. 1st Class Adam Ward said.

The food baskets contained bread, condiments, and of course frozen Turkeys.

This was the ninth year baskets have been delivered.
