Killeen: Vigil held for 17-year-old gunned down in neighborhood

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) A vigil was held Friday night for a 17-year-old who was shot and then left to die in a Killeen neighborhood.

Martez Anthony Bryant was fatally shot just after 9 p.m. Wednesday in the 3300 block of Hereford Lane. On Friday night, family and friends of Bryant lit candles, held balloons and remembered the teen at the same location he was killed.

His mother, Afrika Whitaker, says she is still in disbelief. Bryant had recently moved to Killeen from St. Louis.

"I moved him here to get away from all the madness there and now this...I don't know what to do," she said.

The family has created a GoFundMe page to help pay for expenses getting his body back to St. Louis for a burial.

Bryant's family also says he was preparing to be a father and was in the area to visit his girlfriend.

As of Friday night, no arrests have been announced by Killeen police.

"Someone seen something...please tell your local authorities. Call me, inbox me, anything...please," Whitaker pleaded.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at (254) 526-TIPS.
