Officers were dispatched to the complex in the 600 block of West Hallmark Avenue at around 6:45 a.m. Thursday after callers reported that a man was firing a handgun.

As they responded, callers reported that the man, whom police later identified as Nathan Erick Nance, 43, was running toward the north and was randomly shooting his handgun, police said in a press release Thursday afternoon.

Officers established a perimeter in the area and notified the Killeen ISD to ensure the safety of students waiting for buses in the area.

“KISD’s quick and full cooperation allowed us to get all of the kids to safety and out of the area in question.”

“After an exhaustive search for Nance occurred without locating him, it was called off while the criminal investigation continued,” police said.

No one was injured.
