Belton: Fire department sells fireworks to raise funds to fight fires

BELTON, Texas (KWTX) The Sparta Volunteer fire department is fundraising by selling fireworks this holiday season.

The ironic fundraiser is being held through New Year's Eve.

The stand is set up on FM 429 across from Nomad's convenience store.

This is the second time that the department has held a firework fundraiser.

Organizers say the profits are going towards a new station they are planning to build next year.

The department says they go over firework safety tips with all of their customers before they sell.

They recommend fire extinguishers and buckets of water for used fireworks to be placed in.

Organizers say if you plan on firing your fireworks to double check with your county and city laws first.
