Man arrested in death of local motel owner indicted for manslaughter

TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Montreal Wright, 29, of Temple, who was arrested in March in connection with an attack that left a local motel owner dead was indicted Wednesday for manslaughter/habitual.

Wright, who was originally charged with murder, according to online records, remains in the Bell County Jail in lieu of bonds totaling more than $500,000.

Wright was arrested during a traffic stop on March 2.

The officer conducting the stop recognized Wright and knew there was a warrant out for his arrest.

Officers found Manish Patel severely injured after responding just before 3:50 a.m. on Feb. 12 to the Econo Lodge at 1001 North General Bruce Dr. in Temple.

“Detectives found that the victim had been assaulted by an individual who subsequently left the scene,” police spokeswoman Ellen Morton said in a press release at the time.

Patel was taken to Scott & White Medical Center where he died.
