GATESVILLE, Texas (KWTX) Authorities found a body Thursday afternoon 400 yards from an abandoned pickup truck discovered earlier that belongs to a Coryell County man who’s been missing for nearly two weeks.

Steve Witt, 57, who lives in the southeastern party of the county, has been missing since late last month, Coryell County Sheriff Scott Williams said Thursday.

His abandoned truck was found Wednesday on Bald Knob Road south of Gatesville.

The body was sent to Dallas for autopsy and positive identification.

Earlier Thursday, Williams said three suspects were in custody after trying to cash checks belonging to Witt, who’s been missing for three weeks and is feared to have been a victim of foul play.

"We are very concerned about his welfare,” Williams said.

A man and two women were arrested Wednesday night in San Patricio County near Corpus Christi, trying to cash checks belonging to Witt, Williams said.

“He's had some mental health issues and had some run-ins with the law in the past. He is wanted on a felony aggravated assault with a deadly weapon warrant right now, but we are not concerned about arresting him, we just want to find him safe and sound,” he said.

Authorities are asking anyone with information on Witt’s whereabouts to call the Coryell County Sheriff’s Office at (254) 865-7201.
