“While performing scheduled maintenance at a facility in Copperas Cove, our highly trained technicians experienced a condition with our equipment which resulted in the shutdown of our system to make repairs,” Atmos Energy Manager of Public Affairs Tammie Bowman said in a press release Friday.

Atmos crews were able to restore service for such critical institutions as schools, healthcare facilities and hotels overnight, she said.

Technicians were going door-to-door Friday to restore service for other affected customers.

Atmos employees will have identification badges displaying the technicians’ names and photographs and the Atmos logo, the company said.

A resident 18 or older must be present.

If a customer isn’t at home, the technician will leave a door tag with instructions on how to restore service.

Customers with questions may call the Atmos Energy customer contact center at 888.286.6700.

Residents who smell natural gas should leave the area immediately and then call 911 and the Atmos emergency number at 866.322.8667
