Residents want change after altercation, shooting in local neighborhood

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Police are investigating a shooting that sent one person to a local hospital.

Killeen police responded to the scene shortly after 7 p.m. Tuesday in the 4500 block of Chase Circle.

A witness told police several people had gotten into a fight and people started firing shots.

“All you hear is pow, pow, pow. It was constant you could kind of tell it was more than one person," Alexxia Turner said.

After the latest crime in the area, Turner and other residents want change.

“The wave of the neighborhood has changed. I’m pretty sure nobody feels safe enough to let their kids out to play by themselves," she said.

In recent months the area has also seen its share of crime.

Yorrick Toms was shot and killed on Dec. 20 on Westcliff Road, an assault was reported in March and May, a theft in April and a burglary of a vehicle was reported in June.

“It’s enough; you know because when you move and feel like this is the place for me and everything turns out the same, it kind of gets repetitive," Turner said.

She is also calling on the Killeen Police Department and residents to help change the culture of the neighborhood.

“We’re worried. We don’t feel like we’re safe, we’re worried for our lives. Some of us don’t even live this type of life, so all of us are a target," she said.

One person was taken to Seton Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries in Tuesday's shooting.

A possible motive was not released. Killeen police are still investigating.
