TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Police were investigating Wednesday after another vehicle was struck by a rock on Interstate 35 in Temple, but could not immediately say whether the incident may be linked to others including one that left a Central Texas woman dead.
The latest incident was reported on Monday.
The driver told police a rock struck her vehicle while she was driving south on the interstate near Loop 363.
The officer observed damage to the passenger side of the vehicle’s windshield, but did not find a rock, authorities said Wednesday.
On March 9, Keila Flores, 33, a Waco native who graduated from STARS High School and McLennan Community College, died after a rock thrown from an Interstate 35 overpass in Temple smashed through the windshield of the car in which she was riding.
Police confirmed on March 14 they were investigating after receiving three other reports from drivers who said objects including a rock and an egg were thrown at their vehicles as they drove on U.S. Highway 190/Interstate 14 in Belton.
The vehicles were struck between 12:30 a.m. and 12:45 a.m. on March 12 between FM 1670 and Loop 121.
In at least once instance, the object was thrown from an overpass.
Officers questioned two juveniles they found in the area, but made no arrests.
Days later, a rock thrown from the Nugent Avenue overpass in Temple struck the roof of a Volkswagen Golf GTI.
No one was hurt.
Belton investigators advised Temple police about the three incidents on I-14, but say they don’t think they’re connected to the I-35 incidents.
On March 18 a brick thrown from a car partially shattered the windshield of a tow truck.
The First Call Auto Recovery wrecker was in the 22000 block of Southwest H K Dodgen Loop when the brick struck and shattered a portion of the driver’s side windshield.
The driver was not able to get a provide description of the suspect, but says the brick was thrown from a westbound black Dodge Charger.
Temple police say they are investigating this case separately from other recent rock-throwing incidents in the same area.
