TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Police are investigating after a Central Texas woman reported that a man tried to pull her 5-year-old grandson out of her car outside of a Temple Family Dollar store.

Officers responded to a report of the abduction attempt just after 10 p.m. Sunday at the store in the 1800 block of South 3rd Street.

The woman said a man wearing a black hooded sweatshirt got out of a silver vehicle in the store’s parking lot and approached her vehicle, police spokesman Cody Weems said in a press release Monday.

“The male allegedly reached into the back seat and attempted to pull the child out of the vehicle, but was unsuccessful. The victim was able to flee the scene in her vehicle,” Weems said.

The would-be kidnapper got back into the silver vehicle, in which several other people were riding, and one of the occupants appeared to be pointing a rifle out the widow as the vehicle sped off, Weems said.
