Temple: Police make arrest in shooting that sent man to local hospital

TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) A suspect was in custody Monday in connection with a shooting in Temple that sent a man to a local hospital.

Marcus Laron Mayes, Jr., 21, was arrested during a traffic stop at around 1:40 a.m. Friday near the intersection of West Irvin Avenue and North 17th Street in Temple.

He was arrested after a small quantity of marijuana was recovered, but on Saturday a warrant charging aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was issued in connection with the shooting, which occurred just before 8 p.m. on Nov. 6 at West Avenue M and South 17th Street.

The victim, whose name has not been released, suffered what police said were non-life-threatening injuries.

Mayes is held in lieu of bonds totaling $101,500.
