Killeen: $200K bond set for suspect in shooting that sent man to hospital

KILLEEN, Texas (KWTX) Bond was set at $200,000 for a suspect in a shooting Friday at a Killeen apartment complex that sent a man to a Temple hospital.

Jeffrie Sterling Lane, Jr. 27, was arrested by Killeen police with help from U.S. marshals at around 12:30 Saturday afternoon in Austin.

He was in the Bell County Jail Monday charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Police received numerous calls about the shooting at around 12:25 p.m. Friday at the Bonanza Apartments in the 2300 block of Botanical Drive.

The unidentified victim was flown to Scott & White Medical Center in Temple.

Information about injuries and condition wasn’t available.

On Friday SWAT officers searched a home in the 2300 block of Andover looking for Lane, but the suspect wasn't there.

Some residents of the complex were evacuated during the search, but were later allowed to return to their apartments.

Streets were closed at Westover and Andover, Westover and Botanical, Lilac and Botanical and Bonner and Andover, police said.

The streets were reopened by around 5:30 p.m. Friday.

Residents were asked to avoid the area.
