Officers cleared the scene and the Mall reopened at around 6:30 p.m. after the search came up empty.

Police received a report at around 4:45 p.m. Monday that a man was walking around the mall with a note on his shoulder.

Police spokesman Chris Chistoff didn’t have information about what the note said.

In addition, another spokesperson, Ellen Morton, said she didn't have information about how the note was written or displayed on the man's shoulder but said they were looking for an African American male, about 5'8 with a 'very slender' build who was wearing all black.

"We took it seriously and did a thorough search of the area but found no one matching that description, and no one was arrested or detained," said Morton.

On Friday Morton said she was not planning on releasing information about what they were told the note said because it was speculation.

The mall was not evacuated, but police were not allowing anyone to enter during the search.
