Potts, who was born on March 7, 1927, spent his entire life in Belton, leaving only to serve in the U.S. Navy during World War II and to attend Texas A&M University from which he graduated in 1948.
After graduation he joined the family business, which was founded in 1869, and retired as the company’s president in 1998.
He was active in civic affairs and donated funds for the Belton ISD’s Roy & Jean Potts Swim Center as well as to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor, which dedicated Potts Plaza in 2005 to recognize the support.
“Mr. Potts’ legacy of generosity and kindness will live on for generations through the hundreds of children who swim at the Roy and Jean Potts Swim Center, including Mr. Potts’ great-granddaughter Emily Potts, who is currently a member of Belton ISD’s swim club, the Tigersharks,” Belton ISD Superintendent Susan Kincannon said.
