SALADO, Texas (KWTX) Students at Salado Junior high school were mourning Monday morning after the death of a seventh grade classmate.

Counselors were available Monday at Salado schools to meet with students individually and in groups and will be available over the coming days and weeks, the district said.

Information about the cause of the 13-year-old boy’s death Sunday wasn’t immediately released, but KWTX learned that the death was neither accidental nor of natural causes.

Salado police are investigating.

Superintendent Dr. Michael Novotny sent a message to parents on Sunday notifying them of the death.

“I am writing with great sadness to inform you that one of our 7th grade students has died. Our thoughts and sympathies are with his family and friends,” the superintendent wrote.

“Information about the funeral service will be made available as soon as we have it. If your child wishes to attend, we strongly encourage you to accompany him or her to the service. If the funeral is scheduled during school hours, students who wish to attend will need parental permission to be released from school,” he wrote.
