Services scheduled for Texas trooper who died 5 months after shooting

AUSTIN, Texas (KWTX) Services are scheduled this week for Texas Department of Public Safety Trooper Moises Sanchez, 49, who died Aug. 24, nearly five months after he was shot in the line of duty.

Visitation is from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday at Legacy Chapels, at 4610 South Jackson Rd. in Edinburg.

The funeral service begins at 1 p.m. Friday at Bert Ogden Arena, at 4900 South Interstate 69C in Edinburg.

Burial follows at the Rio Grande Valley State Veterans Cemetery in Mission.

Sanchez, a four-year DPS veteran, was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran.

He’s survived by his wife Yvonne, two sons and a daughter.

Sanchez suffered head injuries in the shooting on April 6 in Edinburg after responding to the scene of a two-vehicle crash from which one of the driver’s had fled.

He found the man believed to be the driver near the crash scene, and was shot.

The driver was later arrested and faces a capital murder charge.
