LORENA, Texas (KWTX) Crews from several area departments were responding Wednesday after a house outside of Lorena that initial reports indicated was filled with ammunition was engulfed by flames.

The fire was reported at around 3:30 p.m. at Country Springs Road and Wolf Creek Road just off Spring Valley Road northwest of Lorena

The first crews to arrive at the scene reported that some ammunition was discharging, ut authorities later said they could not confirm that there was ammunition inside the home.

A woman who was in the house when the fire started said she looked out a window, saw smoke, and then heard a loud crack.

When she went to the rear of the house and tried to open a door, she found smoke, so she escaped through the front door and called 911.

Authorities think a utility pole line snapped as winds gusted and sparked the fire.

The wind hampered efforts to douse the flames.

The Red Cross is assisting the residents.

Crews from Lorena, Bruceville-Eddy, Hewitt and Robinson helped battle the fire.

The fire produced a tall column of smoke.
