CHINA SPRING, Texas (KWTX) A single-vehicle crash early Monday morning caused thousands of customers to lose power and sent a driver to a local hospital.

The accident was reported at around 4:20 a.m. Monday on Culpepper Lane near Talbert Ranch Road in the China Spring area.

A Hyundai sedan was headed southeast “at a speed that was unsafe to negotiate the curve,” DPS Sgt. Ryan Howard said.

“The vehicle left the roadway and crashed into a utility pole.”

The driver, whose name was not released, was taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center.

Information about the nature and severity of the driver’s injuries wasn’t available.

“The investigation is still ongoing, and charges are possible,” Howard said.

The outage came as temperatures in the area dipped below freezing.

The Oncor power outage map showed more than 3,100 customers in the China Spring area lost power, but by late morning, service had been restored to all but a handful of customers.
