SUV-18-wheeler crash sends 1 to local hospital with serious injuries

TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) A driver whom Temple firefighters freed from the wreckage of an SUV involved in an early-morning crash with an 18-wheeler was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The accident was reported just before 5:30 a.m. Friday on State Highway 317 between Airport Road and Little Mexico Road in Temple.

Authorities say the woman who was driving the Toyota SUV was attempting to make a U-turn when the 18-wheeler hauling rock and gravel hit it.

Highway 317 was closed to traffic in the area of the accident and drivers were advised to use alternate routes.

The wreckage was cleared by early Friday afternoon.

Temple police are investigating.
