NOLANVILLE, Texas (KWTX) Eastbound Interstate 14/U.S. Highway190 remains closed to traffic between Paddy Hamilton Road in Belton and FM 2410 in Belton while Texas Department of Transportation engineers inspect drill shafts supporting the highway as it crosses South Nolan Creek, but the highway could reopen between 8 p.m. and midnight Wednesday.

What TxDOT described as a “high-level assessment” of the shafts is expected to take at least another 24 hours to complete.

"The temporary closure is necessary in order to allow water levels from recent rains to subside and then effect repairs to two of the 36 existing columns supporting the bridge structure, at the Nolan Creek crossing," TxDOT spokesman Ken Roberts said in a press release Tuesday.

Traffic on the eastbound highway will to be diverted to the frontage road at Paddy Hamilton Road and directed back onto I-14 at FM 2410.

“Motorists should expect to encounter additional traffic control and delays at FM 2410 within the project area,” TxDOT said in a press release.

Drivers should be alert for traffic control personnel, construction and equipment in the area.
