CHILTON, Texas (KWTX) Counselors and pastors were available Thursday at Chilton High School after senior Emilio Rueda, 18, died Wednesday in a one-vehicle crash in Waco.
“We encourage the Chilton community to surround the family with thoughts of love and prayers of comfort during this time of bereavement,” the district said in a post on its website.
“Additionally, we ask that community members, parents, and teachers extend support to the graduating class of 2020 as they navigate this difficult time.”
“We will do all that we can to help our students, staff, and community through this experience.”
Rueda died Wednesday morning when the pickup truck in which he was riding veered off the road and struck a light pole at the intersection of Robinson Drive and Primrose Drive.
Officers responded to the accident shortly before 7:30 a.m. Wednesday.
They determined that the 2003 GMC Sierra pickup was headed south on Robinson Drive when drifted off the roadway and struck the pole.
Rueda was ejected.
He died at the scene.
The driver of the truck, whose name was not released, was taken to a local hospital with what police said were non-life-threatening injuries.
The team of pastors and counselors will be on the high school’s campus from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Thursday.
The district is encouraging anyone who wishes to meet with the team wear a face mask.
Services were pending Thursday.
The district is accepting donations in Rueda’s memory and will make a contribution to his family.
