TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) M. Sean Parker has been hired as the new Airport Director for Temple’s Draughon-Miller Central Texas Regional Airport, the city announced Wednesday.
“My priority is to meet everyone and work on creating great working relationships with the staff, airport tenants, and stakeholders. I look forward to playing a part in the airport’s growth and continued success,” Parker said in a press release Wednesday.
Parker succeeds Joseph Medici, who started as the city’s director of airport services on Jan. 2.
He and the city parted ways in July because “he was not a good fit for our organization,” Temple Public Relations Manager Laurie Simmons said in an email.
Parker, who has served for the last eight years as airport director and rescue and firefighting chief at Sierra Blanca Regional Airport outside of Ruidoso, N.M., has 32 years of emergency response and aircraft rescue and firefighting and 26 years of airport and aviation experience.
“Mr. Parker has extensive experience in airport, aviation, and aircraft rescue and firefighting operations. Assistant City Manager Erin Smith said in a press release Wednesday.
“There are several projects we are currently working on and planning for the airport in the next couple of years. I look forward to working on these projects with Mr. Parker and having him join the City of Temple team.”
Parker will be paid an annual salary of $118,560, less than the $123,011.20 that Medici was making, but more than the $87,963.20 former Airport Director Sharon Rostovich was earning when she ended her 25-year career.
Rostovich served as Temple’s Airport Director from October 1993 until June, 2018.
Prior to being appointed airport director, she had served as an airport coordinator since July 1986.
