TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Grand jurors returned an indictment Wednesday stemming from a shooting in November in Temple that left a man injured.

Marcus Laron Mayes, Jr., 21, was named in the indictment charging aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

He was arrested after an early-morning traffic stop on Nov. 22 near the intersection of West Irvin Avenue and North 17th Street in Temple.

He was taken into custody after a small quantity of marijuana was recovered, but on Nov. 23 a warrant charging aggravated assault with a deadly weapon was issued in connection with the shooting, which occurred just before 8 p.m. on Nov. 6 at West Avenue M and South 17th Street.

The victim, whose name has not been released, suffered what police said were non-life-threatening injuries.

Mayes was ordered held in lieu of bonds totaling $101,500.

His name did not appear on the Bell County Jail’s online roster Wednesday.
