Each office in Bell County has a Rainbow Room filled with clothes and supplies for children to choose from after they're removed from their homes, often without a majority of their belongings.

CPS is asking for donations of backpacks for situations in which children are taken in an emergency and need to get a bag quick and on the go.

"They may come from the house with nothing so that means they need everything a kid outside would need," David Woodberry, chair of the Bell County Child Welfare Board, said.

They're looking for bags to include pajamas, underwear, toothbrush and paste, travel size shampoo, conditioner and body wash, hair brush, comb, blanket, note of encouragement and activity such as games, puzzles, coloring books, stuffed animals or journals.

"It’s something of their own that they can claim instead of it being taken away or being a left at home they have something that they can carry with them," volunteer, Renee Vila said.

If you're unable to purchase an entire backpack of supplies, general donations for the rooms such as socks, shoes, personal hygiene products, diapers or formula, are also needed.

All donated items must be new and unused.

The Rainbow Room is overseen by the Child Welfare Board, but its day to day organization is all handled by volunteers, which are also needed.

Between 282 and 312 children were removed from their homes in Bell County in January 2020.

If you would like to make a donation, you can visit any CPS office and tell the front desk it’s for the Rainbow Room.
