TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) The Temple Mall welcomes two new businesses in 2020, but they aren’t traditional retailers; an aquarium and adventure park are changing the way area residents think about the local mall.

Residents have been buzzing since 7 Seas Aquarium announced its January opening.

Owner, Fidel Junco says it will feature urchins, horse-shoe crabs, starfish, stingray touch tanks and a lazy river.

Robert Brandenburg already owns four businesses at the Temple Mall and says the change is important for the malls success.

“Retail shopping or socializing those things are all online for the most part," he said.

The mall is finding other ways to keep people coming through the doors and the shift is to more service and experiences” Brandenburg says.

7 Seas Aquarium will be an interactive experience geared towards families.

“It’s going to make it more of a family friendly entertainment venue at the mall” Junco said.

“Working together with the business is cross promoting and teaming together offering discounts through each outlet has proved beneficial as a team to work to attract customers and give them an incentive to come out.” Brandenburg added.
