His daughter, Sandra, knows.

"I'm very fortunate he made it out alive," she said.

"Had he not, my sister and I wouldn't be here."

Creech served with the 38th Battalion of the 2nd Infantry Division in World War II.

He survived D-Day in Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge and even helped liberate two concentration camps in Czechoslovakia.

He received a Purple Heart medal after shrapnel injured his leg during the Battle of the Bulge.

More than 70 years later, he still makes a lasting impression on many working at the Temple VA.

His daughter says that his persuasive and persistent attitude is a secret to living a good life. In the end, she feels blessed to see him cross such a milestone.

"I'm one of those fortunate people that got to be raised by a hero," Creech said.

"Not many people get that honor."
