TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) Tonny Hennes, a longtime local television news anchor who had just announced his candidacy for a Temple City Council seat died Monday at his home in Temple.

Hennes, who for years was the nightly news anchor on KCEN, Channel 6, announced just a couple of weeks ago he would run for a council seat left open after the previous councilman resigned.

KWTX spoke with the executor of Hennes’ estate Monday night who confirmed he and others had been trying to reach Hennes during the day Monday and when they were unable to, a friend went to Hennes’ home and found him unresponsive.

Hennes, 72, also spent 10 years working for the City of Temple as public information officer, serving as the spokesman for both the mayor and council.

Arrangements for Hennes still were pending.
