Texas Rangers seek new leads in 36-year-old murder mystery

AUSTIN, Texas (KWTX) Authorities have increased the reward for information that leads to an arrest to $6,000 as Texas Rangers search for new leads in a 36-year-old murder mystery.

Royal Cumby was gunned down at around 7:20 p.m. on May 29, 1983, at the intersection in Santa Fe in Galveston County.

The killer escaped in Cumby’s vehicle, which found abandoned about three hours later in La Marque.

Authorities have never established a motive or identified a suspect.
