FORT HOOD, Texas (KWTX) A group of Texas lawmakers visit Fort Hood Friday to meet with troops to learn more about what happens on post and how they can better serve their community.

Texas Senator Dawn Buckingham, District 24, Representative Brad Buckley, District 54, and Hugh Shine, District 55 and staff participated in simulations to see firsthand how troops train.

“It is really fun what our soldiers do and even with the simulation we understand how stressful the job is” Buckingham said.

“My favorite part of the day is always interacting with the soldiers, understanding why they wanted to serve and why they continue to serve.”

With the legislative session in full swing, helping improve the lives of soldiers after the military is on their agendas.

“We need an economic climate that provides good jobs so when they retire or separate from the military we can keep them in Texas” Buckley said.

While creating jobs is a most, Buckley also has plans to help those who have served.

“We are working real hard on the 100 percent disabled veteran reimbursement program the governor has set for that as a priority.”
