Auditions took place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Waco Convention Center.

After standing in line and registering, people sang their hearts out for judges--mostly casting directors and producers--in groups of five for round one.

Waco was the only Texas city on the 22-stop “American Idol” bus tour for season 3 of the show on ABC.

After singing his way past three steps of auditions, KWTX employee, Nicholi Martinez, made it through to the next round.

"A lot of friends and family have pushed me and said 'hey' I got the gift and the talent to do it," said Martinez. "Finally kind of anchored up the courage to do it."

Martinez, and others who will continue on, are waiting on instructions from producers on where they're going next.

Those who auditioned had to be between the ages of 15 and 28 and couldn't have been part of the top 10 in any previous season of the show
