WACO, Texas (KWTX) With the help of some generous area residents, Waco nurse Michelle RedElk, 35, the mother of two boys ages 11 and 5, underwent successful surgery Monday at The Mayo Clinic in Phoenix, Ariz., for three potentially life-threatening brain aneurysms.

Because the neurosurgeon who performed the procedure was out of her health insurance network, she had to pay $20,000 up front.

Waco businessman Jimmy Meeks, the owner of Advanced Foundation Repair, learned of RedElk’s plight last week and stepped in to help, although he barely knows her.

Meeks says he challenged anyone who wants to help RedElk to contribute and said he would match the donations.

But whatever the case, he said he promised her she would get to Phoenix.

On Sunday, the final $15,000 was paid to ensure the procedure would be performed.
