MORGAN’S POINT RESORT, Texas (KWTX) - A very vocal Morgan’s Point Resort community commented on the jarring changes to their leadership at the monthly city council meeting on Aug. 12.

KWTX talked with a former communication director for the city who said since leaving her position in October 2024 that at least eight other people have left their positions. From the fire chief to the Chief Financial Officer, and their constituents had a bone to pick with city council about during public comment.

A dozen people were on the docket to address the council and the city manager, citing poor communication trends and unstable leadership.

They knew they would be met by silence from council as they are not required to respond in open forum but that didn’t stop taxpayers from standing before them and laying out just how their elected officials have let them down.

“I’m emotional looking around the room and seeing all of the good employees we’ve lost,” says one resident as she sets a bottle of disinfectant spray on the table. “It’s time to clean it up council.”

“Why in the Hades did you fire the fire chief? He has more credentials than anyone here and made the department what it is,” another resident says.

Most everyone that spoke carried a similar sentiment. But then came former employees who had a more inside look at why they are no longer with the city and expressing frustrations directly at Dennis Baldwin, the city manager.

“I come tonight as a former employee and want to express my concerns with a number of departures. I was forced out of my position by Dennis Baldwin. I had asked Dennis to address the council and the community on my departure so I could say goodbye at the February workshop meeting, Dennis conveniently failed to make that happen,” the former employee says.

He continues, “I found it odd at the time but I think it makes more sense after this last month of resignations. It seems hard to fathom that city staff, especially the ones that were just fired and I’m going to use the term fired, were able to work without issue with the previous city manager who went on to lead a much bigger city.”

It wasn’t all contention, there were a few who wanted to point out what makes the city so great and how their local leaders make that happen. And there was exceptional praise for the town’s mayor who went to work landscaping ahead of the first day of school.

“I want to thank Jimbo Snyder because he doesn’t get paid for anything he does but that didn’t stop him from getting on his lawnmower in 9,000 degrees to mow from the Dollar General to the school,” a resident says.

“I do appreciate all of you, the hard work that you’ve done and the learning and training that you’ve done,” another adds.

It was a packed house and following the meeting the council went into a closed session.

As for the residents, they just hope for transparency about changes happening within the government they rely on.
