SMITH COUNTY, Texas (KLTV) - A child was hospitalized and her mother arrested after the child ate a THC gummy, the Smith County Sheriff’s Office said.

Kendall Johnson has been charged with endangering a child. Her bond is set at $250,000.

The sheriff’s office was called around 5 p.m. Wednesday to a possible overdose involving a child in the 12800 block of Candleridge Drive.

When deputies arrived, a 1-year-old child was seen in a lethargic state. The sheriff’s office said the child was taken to UT Health ER in Tyler and later airlifted to Cook Children’s Hospital in the DFW area. At this time, the child is in stable condition, the sheriff’s office said.

An investigation showed that the child had eaten a THC gummy around 3:15 p.m. that day.

“This allegedly occurred while the child and her older brother were momentarily left unattended in Johnson’s vehicle while at a residence near Dixie Elementary School,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release. “When she returned to the vehicle, she realized her son and daughter had gotten into her THC gummies which were left in the vehicle. By this time, the daughter had already ingested a portion of one gummy.”

The sheriff’s office said Johnson then went to the Candleridge Drive house until she called 911.
