WACO, Texas (KWTX) - McLennan Community College is making history in its theatre program — premiering an original play written by one of their own.

Students will debut The Song of Iphigenia, a Greek tragedy — and an original work by English Professor Nick Webb.

This wasn’t just a cast-and-crew experience. MCC says students helped develop the production alongside Webb— hands-on training you’d more often see in professional theatre.

The play was workshopped in 2024, with script readings, revisions, and re-works — and now it’s ready for the stage.

“It’s a great learning opportunity for our students because they are seeing us as instructors doing what we loved doing and what we did as professionals ourselves to like really give them the nuts and bolts of what it does to build a brand new show, having absolutely nothing to gauge it from,” Joe Taylor, Associate Professor of Theatre, Movement, and Dance said.

The Song of Iphigenia debuts Thursday at 7:30 in the evening.

The play will run from April 23-26 at the Music and Theatre Arts building at 1400 College Drive.
