Fort Hood: $3.47 million grant will modernize airport facility
A $3.47 million state grant will cover the cost of modernizing and renovating the radar approach and control facility at Robert Gray Army Airfield on Fort Hood.
It is grants like this that allows us to continually improve Fort Hood's infrastructure, giving our men and women in uniform the facilities to safely train in defense of our nation," said Col. Todd Fox, Fort Hood’s garrison commander.
The airfield shares its runaway and control tower with Killeen Regional Airport, so the improvements will benefit not only Army pilots, but also the commercial carriers that serve the joint-use facility.
The Texas governor’s office awarded the grant under the Texas Military Preparedness Assistance Grant program, which was created to assist communities that could be affected by a future Base Realignment and Closure round.
“Texas remains at the vanguard of supporting the U.S. military and the communities in which they serve,” Gov. Greg Abbott said Friday.
