H-E-B will cash stimulus checks for free for those without a bank account
H-E-B on Thursday announced free in-store check cashing of stimulus checks and the waiver of select fees for the H-E-B Prepaid Mastercard in an effort to help Texans who don't have a bank account or direct deposit.
The San Antonio-based grocer announced all H-E-B Business Centers will provide free check cashing services for economic impact payment checks.
To cash a check, customers will need a valid, non-expired state ID or driver’s license and social security number.
For customers who want to manage finances electronically while in the comfort and safety of their homes, H-E-B has waived the card purchase fee and 60 days of monthly plan fees for H-E-B Prepaid cards that are purchased between April 1 and May 31.
Customers will also be able to set up direct deposit to their H-E-B Prepaid card, enabling them to get access to economic stimulus funds, income tax returns, unemployment benefits, Social Security benefits or wages, the company said.
Once their accounts are activated, customers are assigned a routing and account number to set up direct deposit.
