Mourners bid farewell Thursday to Ben Markowski, Marlin’s former fire chief, who died last Saturday at the age of 86.

Markowski, who was born in Bremond, retired from the Marlin Fire Department after 35 years of service.

He also served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany.

“Chief Markowski was a pioneer who served the community well,” Marlin Fire Chief Justin Parker said.

“Our show of support today is a message to his family as well of the sacrifices they made as he served Marlin.”

“We will carry on his legacy in the years to come to honor him,” he said.
