Central Texas city declares state of local disaster following severe storms

BARTLETT, Texas (KWTX) - The Mayor of the City of Bartlett declared a state of local disaster Monday morning after Sunday’s severe storms left flooded streets, snapped trees and property damage.

The declaration states the heavy rain and winds left significant property damage in the area.

One shop and three apartments were flooded by the downpours at the Bartlett Lumber Yard, an apartment complex with restaurants and shops.

“Inside our cabins, we had three inches of rain and it was all the way under our mercantile building,” owner of the Bartlett Lumber Yard, Jennifer Tucker, said. “The grounds have been completely covered in at least 2 to 3 inches of water.”

City crews and Mayor Chad Mees jumped into action moments after the storm ended to help remove debris and blockage from the draining system.

The city said the storm left five inches of rain. It said the community will continue to assess damages Monday.

The declaration said it will provide updates on recovery and assistance as soon as possible.
