Temple family could be without a home for a year due to tornado damage

TEMPLE, Texas (KWTX) - In just a matter of minutes the Beach family home became unlivable. After a tornado caused significant damage, the family of three is now left couch surfing and could be without a home for a year.

Days after the tornado, shingles still sit all over the driveway and yard.

”Glass everywhere, all of our belongings scattered, you could tell the winds just moved everything inside,” Caroline Beach said.

Caroline, her husband Brendan and their 4-year-old son Blake are currently staying with loved ones in the Dallas-area.

“Right now we’re just kind of bouncing between his parents’ house and a couple of friends in the meantime,” Caroline said.

Windows are shattered and most of their backyard fence is nowhere to be found.

”There’s water damage in probably a good amount of the rooms,” Caroline said.

Several of the rooms will need to be completely gutted.

”We talked with our insurance adjustor and the restoration business, CK Restoration, and they told us that yeah we’re going to have to gut this whole place,” Brendan said.

Alyssa Freeman currently lives in Alaska, but previously worked with Caroline in Temple. She took it upon herself to set up a GoFundMe for her friends.

”I know that they would do anything like this for me and seeing them struggle through this made me want to help in any way that I can,” Freeman said.

All of the money raised will go toward insurance deductibles and replacing clothes and furniture.

”If people can share just a little bit of their finances with the family, even just $5 and if even several people do that it’ll greatly impact their recovery,” Freeman said.

It’s a long road ahead for the Beach family. They won’t be able to move back home until repairs finish, which could take anywhere from six to twelve months.

”This was like our first home we bought together really as a family after we had our son,” Caroline said. “It was just really hard to see.”
